We already have our own domain name (www.orgname.org). Can we use it with our free web space?

Yes! Huntington County Community Network, Inc., is able to host web sites that have their own domain names! Contact our webmaster for more information.

Will you create our web pages for us?

Huntington County Community Network, Inc., is a small, completely volunteer organization. Our members unfortunately do not have the time to create web pages for other organizations.

We do provide, however, a way to help organizations find volunteers who will create web pages for them. Visit the Huntington County Web Volunteer Clearinghouse.

If you won’t create our web pages, how can we get them?

Depending upon your organization’s resources, you have several options.

  1. Acquire a copy of Microsoft FrontPage and have one of your members use it to create your web pages. FrontPage is fairly easy to learn and works much like Microsoft Word.
  2. Visit the Huntington City-Township Public Library, where you can have free use of a computer that has Microsoft FrontPage installed.
  3. Visit the Huntington County Web Volunteer Clearinghouse to see what web designers have volunteered to help organizations like yours, and to make your needs known.
  4. Contact a local school to see if any of its students have web building skills they will volunteer.
  5. Hire a professional web design firm. Several freelance web designers work in Huntington County.

How do we send our web pages to your server?

Organizations may use Microsoft FrontPage or file transfer protocol (FTP) to publish (upload) their web pages to the Huntington County Community Network, Inc., server. In the future, it might be possible to publish web pages via web browsers.  A tutorial of sorts on uploading your files to our server via FTP can be found at http://www.huntingtoncounty.org/faq/publishing.htm.

Will you provide Internet access so we can upload and maintain our web pages?

Huntington County Community Network, Inc. does not have Internet access services to provide. Your organization (or one of its members) must have your own Internet access, or use one of the computers at the Huntington City-Township Public Library to upload and maintain your web pages.

May we use CGI scripts, Active Server Pages (ASP) or other advanced technologies on our web site?

Yes! Huntington County Community Network, Inc., now supports the use of CGI scripts, Active Server Pages (ASP), PHP and other similar advanced technologies with our free web space for nonprofit organizations. We also fully support the features of Microsoft FrontPage extensions.

Will the free web space service ever change?

Huntington County Community Network, Inc., reserves the right to make future changes to its services, policies and procedures at the discretion of its board of directors (our lawyer suggested we put this in!).

How do we request free web space?

We already have a web site elsewhere, thanks. Will you link to it?
